The public transport company Connexxion has once again placed a new order with VDL Berkhof Heerenveen for 105 low-floor buses of the Ambassador 200 type. This order is an addition to the order for 300 ambassadors due to be handed over, complete, in July 2005. The 105 new Ambassadors will be delivered before 1 December 2005.

This order from Connexxion emphasises the success of the Ambassador, of which since the first series was delivered in August 2002, more than 1.100 units have been ordered from VDL Berkhof Heerenveen. The low floor construction at the entrance and exit doors of the Ambassador has been a contributing factor to this success. This design creates important comfort advantages, such as accessibility for wheelchair users and passengers with buggies.
To further increase the comfort for wheelchair users, 6 buses in this 105 vehicle order will be equipped with various facilities, including a wheelchair platform for 2 wheelchairs. These buses will also be fitted with an electrically operated wheelchair ramp. All buses are equipped with passenger air conditioning.
Environmentally friendly.
Connexxion is the only Dutch public transport company that holds the NEN-EN-ISO 14001 environmental certificate. When issuing this order, the environmental aspects played a decisive role. An important advantage for the Ambassador is its lower weight, leading to considerable cost savings. In addition, the Euro 3 engines are all equipped with a special CRT (soot) filter.
Infoxx system
On all its new buses, Connexxion operates the advanced travel information system, the socalled Infoxx system. An on-board computer is responsible for travel information in the bus via an automatic stopping call-up, and screens on which the expected arrival time and stopping information is displayed. Thanks to the on-board computer, current arrival times at stops can also be displayed.
